Runner spotlight: Lowell

I always feel so relaxed after I go for a long run.”

What inspired you to start running?

I ran cross country in high school, and that’s what got me hooked. I didn’t run for a while after I graduated from high school, but I missed it, so I just started running again.

Do you run 5Ks pretty often?

Yes, pretty frequently. I try to get one a month in if I can. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t, but that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing lately.

Do you have a favorite 5K?

Yes, I do. I’m from Framingham, so on Thanksgiving Day they have a 5K turkey trot. It’s always a good time.

Can you talk about how running helps your overall well-being?

Oh yeah, it relieves stress so much, and it just calms me down. It takes all the pressure off, and I always feel so relaxed after I go for a long run. It’s for my head, for me, more than my body. It really straightens me out!

Do you have a dream race you’d love to run someday?

The most exciting race that I’ve ever run is the Falmouth Road Race. That’s an incredible race. I ran it with my brother; we did it 10 years in a row. And then I stopped, and now I’ve been doing it every five years. So, I’m looking forward to the next one, which will be next year if I stay healthy and everything. But that’s a dream race for me. It’s gorgeous. The scenery is just phenomenal: the lighthouse, Martha’s Vineyard, the water.
