“It’s my calm. It’s a sense of peace. It’s my thinking time.”
Have you run a 5k before?
I have! I was a sprinter in college, but I can’t run as fast anymore, so I’ve shifted into road races.
What do you like about running?
I love running. It’s my calm. It’s a sense of peace. It’s my thinking time. I don’t use headphones when I run. I evaluate my entire life when I’m out on runs. And then when you lock in, there are so many things you can think about in a different way when you’re running.
At first, I thought not using headphones was a safety thing, because I was running, I would get up early and it was dark, and I just wanted to be aware of my surroundings. If there’s a truck coming, I’d like to know. But it’s just good thinking time … and I enjoy it. For me, it’s hard to have a bad day after a run … it just sets you on the right path.
Do you like the 5K distance?
I do, but I’m excited to move up to 10K. I did the B.A.A. 10K last year. It was my first 10K, and I was like, “I could do this.”
Do you usually run with a group or alone?
I run by myself. I don’t like trying to fit into other people’s schedules. I just want to run when I’m available to run.
