Pediatric Dental Coverage

With Harvard Pilgrim Pediatric Dental, dependents under age 19 have easy access to the care they need to keep their mouths healthy. Harvard Pilgrim Pediatric Dental coverage is part of our small employer medical plans.

Our pediatric dental riders offer:

  • Comprehensive dental care for children until age 19, including preventive exams, cleanings, fillings, root canals, extractions, crowns and medically necessary orthodontia.*
  • A network of more than 200,000 providers across the country that your dependents can see without needing a referral, along with lower negotiated rates with these providers.

Members who have Pediatric Dental Rider coverage will receive two ID cards: one for their Harvard Pilgrim medical coverage and another for Harvard Pilgrim Pediatric Dental.

Harvard Pilgrim Pediatric Dental is administered by Dental Benefit Providers, Inc.

* All orthodontic treatment requires prior authorization and will only be approved in those instances that are related to an identifiable syndrome such as cleft lip and or palate, Crouzon’s syndrome, Treacher-Collins syndrome, Pierre-Robin syndrome, hemi-facial atrophy, hemi-facial hypertrophy; or other severe craniofacial deformities which result in a physically handicapping malocclusion as determined by our dental consultants.

How to find a dentist if you have coverage through the rider

Do you have a separate ID card for the Pediatric Dental Rider and/or did you receive specific Pediatric Dental Rider information in your enrollment materials?

Be sure to select the “National Options PPO 25” plan from the “Select a Network” dropdown menu. Can only be viewed in Firefox browser.

How to find a dentist if you have dental coverage through your medical plan

Some Harvard Pilgrim plans do include limited dental services as a covered benefit within the medical plan coverage. If you don’t have a separate Pediatric Dental ID card issued by Harvard Pilgrim or you did not receive specific Pediatric Dental Rider information in your enrollment materials, your dependents may have coverage through your medical plan. Refer to My Plan Documents or call the Member Services number on the back of your ID card.

Find a Provider

Follow these steps:

  1. Select your plan from the list
  2. Click on "Specialists" (under "Search by Provider Type" list)
  3. Select either "General Dentistry" or "Pediatric Dentistry" under the "Specialty" menu
