Introducing Reduce My Costs

Reduce My Costs is a personalized health care shopping service for participating Harvard Pilgrim members.

In Maine, this program is available to members of HSA-qualified plans who are employed by a company with fewer than 50 full time employees, as well as their covered dependents.

Here’s how it works for Maine members with an HSA-qualified plan:

When a doctor requests one of the diagnostic test or rehab services listed below for a Maine Harvard Pilgrim member with an HSA-qualified plan, the member should call a Reduce My Costs nurse to find out how he/she can save money.

  • Laboratory tests
  • Mammogram
  • Ultrasound
  • Radiology (e.g. MRI, CT Scans)
  • X-rays
  • Physical and occupational therapy services
  • Infusion therapy services (please call (855) 772-8366 to obtain a list of the covered services)

 

Members who utilize the Reduce My Costs program and choose a low-cost provider receive a cash reward. Rewards are considered taxable income; please consult your tax advisor.

  1. A Harvard Pilgrim Maine member calls (855) 772-8366 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to speak with a Reduce My Costs nurse.
     
  2. The Reduce My Costs nurse gives the member price and quality comparisons for the medical providers and facilities.
     
  3. If a member decides to see a lower-cost medical provider, he/she may be eligible for a cash reward and the Reduce My Costs nurse will assist with rescheduling the member’s appointment. If an existing referral or authorization is in place, the Reduce My Costs nurse will ensure that the referral/ prior authorization is transferred to the selected medical provider.
     
  4. A member receives the care he/she needs from the medical provider. The medical provider will file a claim for payment to Harvard Pilgrim.
     
  5. Reduce My Costs confirms the member went to the lower-cost medical provider with Harvard Pilgrim.
     
  6. After the claim is paid by Harvard Pilgrim, the member’s reward will be mailed within 45 days from the claim’s transaction date.
