What's covered?

Be sure to get early and regular obstetrical care during your pregnancy. We cover medically necessary pregnancy care, including:

  • Routine outpatient prenatal care, including:
    • Tests to monitor your baby’s health
    • One ultrasound for routine anatomy screening and dating
  • Delivery and inpatient maternity care
  • Inpatient routine nursery care
  • Routine outpatient postpartum care
  • Breastfeeding services, supplies and equipment

Review your plan documents for specific benefit and coverage details, including member cost sharing.

Breast pumps & suppliers

Harvard Pilgrim covers one manual or electric breast pump per pregnancy when:

With an order from your provider, we cover one hospital-grade electric pump rental in place of a manual or electric pump.

Please make sure the DME supplier you plan to buy your breast pump from participates in your plan’s provider network:

  • Log in to your secure member account
  • Select “Find a provider”
  • Select “Search by Name or Facility”
  • Enter the supplier’s name in the search field
  • Select “Search Providers”

In-network DME suppliers will submit a claim to Harvard Pilgrim on your behalf.

Healthy Pregnancy program

Harvard Pilgrim’s care team is here to help you have the healthiest possible pregnancy. Call 866-750-2068 (TTY: 711) to get started. An obstetrical nurse will check in with you at least monthly to answer your questions and make sure you have the support you need during pregnancy and after you give birth.

Depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions are common and can develop at any point during pregnancy. They’re also known as perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), and screening and treatment are available. Here are a few ways you can find help:

  • Talk with your or your child’s health care provider
  • Set up a telemedicine visit with Doctor On Demand
  • Take the in-app screening available from Ovia Parenting
  • If you’re enrolled in our Healthy Pregnancy program, we’ll walk you through an assessment over the phone or in the MyConnect app
